Laura Farahzad Mayer is an artist, designer and hand letterer living and working in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Her work explores themes of grief, memory, culture and generational storytelling and is informed by her upbringing in a small town as the daughter of an immigrant.
While medium, process and materiality are conceptually driven considerations in her work she often works in printmaking, artist books and small sculptures.
Laura earned her BFA from UW–Stevens Point and her MFA from the University of Iowa. She received a certificate from the Center for the Book. She frequently teaches workshops in lettering, bookmaking & printmaking and holds an appointment as a professor at MIAD. Additionally she loves playing pickleball, her two pugs and spending time with her family –including her kids who are frequent collaborators in her work.
